This was a fabulous book. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. There is not a single point in the book, where I dislike Opal. Her character is great throughout the whole book. I wish I were able to make friends like her. And Winn Dixie is an excellent dog, I love how he gives Opal that boost of confidence that she might not of had with out him.
I would definitely recommend reading this book.
I think I might need to go see the movie now!

Chapters 19-26
The end of the book has come.
The end of the book is mostly about getting all of Opal's friends together for a party. Opal got the idea from reading Gone With the Wind. Opal and Gloria worked out all the details, and Opal even convinced the preacher to come.
As I got closer to the end of the book, I started to get worried because I really thought something sad was going to happen. And it did. At the party it started to rain, and everyone had to rush to get inside, everyone was so worried about protecting the food that they forgot about Winn Dixie. As soon as Opal discovered that Winn Dixie was missing, her and her father went searching for the dog. They looked all over town and could not find Winn Dixie, Opal was in tears. The preacher told Opal they needed to go back to the house, Opal reluctantly gave in. When they got back to the house, everyone was happy and singing songs, when Opal got inside she discovered that Winn Dixie had never left the house, he just hid really well.
The book ends with everyone singing and everyone happy.

Chapters 13-18
I am really enjoying this book, a lot more than I thought I would.
Chapter 14 is one of the best chapters in this book because it talks about judging people. Ms. Gloria Dump probably says it best "...you got to remember, you can't always judge people by the things they done. You got to judge them by what they are doing now"(p.96). This is true as a teacher too, when you get that child in your room, don't look at what he/she has done in the past, give them the chance to show you who they are now.
In this part of the book, it makes you feel all warm inside because of all the great things Opal and Winn Dixie do. Winn Dixie stands by Ms. Franny's side as she has a fit andOpal wants to read to Gloria.
This was a great part of the book, I can't wait to tell you all how it ended.

Chapters 7-12
The book just keeps getting better and better.
In this part of the book Opal is making more friends and trying to get a job at a pet store. At the pet store there is a bird named Gertrude. I love this bird. For Opal to get the job the bird has to like Winn Dixie and of course she does. When Winn Dixie goes in the store the birds yells "dog!" and lands on Winn Dixie's head, and Opal is able to work at the pet store so she can pay for the leash she wants for Winn Dixie. This chapter ends with Opal getting invited to a birthday party for a six-year, but she doesn't care about the age, she is glad that she had made another friend.
Also in this section of the book, we learn of Winn Dixie's fear of thunderstorms. One night there is a storm and Winn Dixie goes crazy. This reminded me of one of my childhood pets, I had a cat who would go running through the house and practically do back flips when it stormed.
In chapter 12 Opal goes to work for her first day and sees Otis playing music for all the animals in the store. The animals are out of all their cages and listening to the music, but once he stops the animals go crazy, the only thing that keeps them calm his is playing.

First 6 Chapters
I really enjoyed reading the first few chapters. I love how Opal makes friends with anyone no mater what especially with Winn-Dixie. I also think there is no better name for the dog. I feel that Winn-Dixie gives Opal the courage to do a lot of things that she has held back on, for example Opal was able to ask her dad some questions she had about her mom.
I know how the rest of the book goes, because I had a hard time putting it down. It is a great book. I will tell you all more later.

Introduction
HI. I am Michele Moore, I'm a senior and will be graduating in May. I am reading Because of Winn-Dixie because when I was reading the books to choose from this title stood out the most. It was the only book that I could remember on the list. I hope to learn a lot from the book as well as using this blog. It is something that is new to me and I hope to learn a lot from my classmates as well.
